Privacy Policy
The short version
Trick or Steal has no accounts and never asks for your name, email, location or contacts. To run its online parts (the Catacombs, the leaderboards, the weekly league, Cauldron Square, moving to a new phone) and to help us make the game better, it sends some information to our server. That information is tied only to a random ID the game makes for your device, not to who you are. Other players know your cat only by a name you build from three words in our list (never anything you type) and a random player code, and there is no chat. You can turn off play data, keep your cat out of the Midnight Catwalk, or delete everything the game sent, at any time in the game's Settings.
What stays on your device
- the name you give your cat: it is never sent to us, and only appears on pictures you choose to share yourself;
- your progress: stars, scores, coins, upgrades, outfits, trophies and collections;
- your settings, such as volume and graphics quality.
On iPhone, if you are signed in to iCloud, the game also keeps a copy of your progress in your own iCloud account (run by Apple), so it comes back if you reinstall. Deleting the app deletes what is on the device; Settings → Reset progress erases your progress there and in iCloud.
What the game sends to us
When you are online, the game connects to our server with a random, anonymous ID made for your device (there is no email or password). With that ID it sends:
- Play data, unless you turn off Settings → Share play data: when you play and how each night goes (for example the score, the time left, what you stole and which goals you met), what you buy or wear in the shop, the game's version, the type of device, and any errors the game runs into. We use it to balance the game and fix problems.
- Your cat's look, name and stars: the outfit and colours you chose, the three words you picked for its name from our word lists, and your total stars, so other players can see your cat in the Midnight Catwalk, the leaderboards, the weekly league and Cauldron Square. Our server also gives each player a random five-character player code (like #K7QM2), shown after the name on the leaderboards, so friends can find each other. To keep your cat out of the Midnight Catwalk, turn off Settings → My cat on the Midnight Catwalk.
- Scores, league points and likes: your best Candy Dash run on each world and your Daily Challenge scores (shown with your cat, its name and code on the leaderboards), your points in the weekly league, and the likes you give other cats.
- Cauldron Square: while you are in the square, your cat's look, where it walks, its moves and the ready-made phrases you pick are sent live to the other players there, and our server notes which room of the square you are in, so a friend who types your player code can join you. Nothing can be typed, and you can hide any cat from your own screen.
- Feedback: if you use Settings → Send feedback, what you write and, if you tick the box, your recent nights and your device's details (its model, screen and graphics).
- Moving to a new phone: if you ask for a code, a copy of your progress waits on our server for 24 hours, or until the code is used.
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, photos or advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising tools.
Who handles it
Our server runs on Supabase, in the United States, which stores this information for us. We do not sell it or share it with anyone else.
Deleting it
Settings → Delete my online data erases everything the game sent from your device (play data, your cat in the Catacombs, your scores on the leaderboards, your league, your feedback) from our server straight away. You can also ask us by email (below).
Reminders
If you allow notifications, the game asks your device to show a daily reminder (for example when the next Halloween calendar door opens). These are scheduled on your device by the app itself; no information is sent to us or anyone else. You can turn them off in the game's Settings or in iOS Settings.
Apple services
Game Center leaderboards are run by Apple and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We only see the scores and the Game Center nickname that Apple shows on its leaderboards. iCloud, the App Store, TestFlight and any purchases are handled by Apple; we never see your payment details.
Children
Trick or Steal is a family-friendly game. It never asks for personal information, a cat’s name online is made from words we chose (nothing a player types is ever shown to others), there is no chat, and everything a cat can say online is chosen from a list we wrote. Play data is tied to an anonymous ID, not to a person.
Changes
If a future version changes what the game sends (for example by adding optional ads), we will update this page before that version is released and change the date at the top.
